In Southern Oregon the Mormon Church is quite strong. Portland is in the unchurched Northwest.

Utah had a Mormon Republican senator who was a cousin of all the Mormon Democrat Udalls who are elected in other states (also a cousin of Mike Lee of Utah). But a lot has changed in the state in recent years. “Republican” is a dirty word there now.
