Not exactly winning the hearts and minds.
Was the local Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane???
Don’t bring a raccoon into a bar and there’s no problem. Sounds like the “pet” owners are stupid.
I don’t even think having wild animals as pets is a good idea. It may seem cool and fun, but you should ask yourself if you want a pet that could kill or injure you or your friends and loved ones.
The lady named the Raccoon, Rocky? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDcDCZGcZj8
See the link at post 5.
> Christensen brought Rocky into a local bar in Maddock during happy hour <
I’m blaming the bar on this one. The bar should have made it clearer that its happy hour was for people, and not for raccoons, squirrels, etc.
Now she and her man, who called himself Dan
Where in the next room at the hoedown
Rocky burst in and grinned in a grin
He said, “Danny boy, this is a showdown”
But Daniel was hot, he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner
We are mostly getting one side on this. That is certainly a sufficient reason to withhold judgment. Still, a few thoughts:
Bringing an untested, unvaccinated racoon into one’s own house seems foolish. Bringing it into a public establishment is downright stupid and irresponsible.
Police using a battering ram and shock and awe tactics against Americans, if true in this case, is fascistic. I do not condone it. Could I make an exception. Sure, but this is not one of them.

When I was a kid the neighbors raised an orphan raccoon it was the favorite of the hood!
It would ride on the bicycle handlebars or the owner’s shoulders...
After a year or two, it started to bite and disappeared.
Later heard to keep them, they have to be neutered or they can get mean?
Great Minds Think Alike. See post 5
I’ve shared this story before.
When my dad was a kid and not yet a teen, he had 2 pet raccoons he’d found as kits. 1 was meaner then snot and eventually took off on his own.
The other was a character that constantly teased his sister. He also had a habit of going up to the local bar and scratching on the back door. They would give him a saucer of beer and then waddle back home satisfied.
Now I can’t be sure, but I’m guessing that since Granddad was a bit of a drinker himself that he’s the one that introduced beer to the creature.
He stuck around and eventually died of old age as I understand it after about a dozen years.
Stupid, absolutely stupid to bring a racoon into any public establishment. We have more coons on our property than I care for, and when live trapped they are viscous, they absolutely scare the hell out of me carrying the cage. They can make short work of a rabbit in no time.
Now if this animal had its shots, carried the tag on a collar and on a leash, maybe, just maybe it’s OK. The owner is a dumb ass. I do not fault the cops, they are there to protect people, not an animal.
.
Heck, if I ran into Rocky the Flying squirrel in a bar, I'd buy him a drink.
But NOT so for a racoon. Not after what happened at
Lake Taughannock Falls state park in New York.
Those dangerous beast-hoodlums were out of control...
But Rocky squirrel is a gentleman - errr.... gentle-squirrel.
Roadkill in June
My beloved raccoon
Rocky never left my arms
when I visited the bar
I held him so tight
All through the night...
(Songwriting is obviously not a skill I have, but at least Rocky was loved!)
Tearjerker material in any case.
I was thinking more along the lines of The Beatles. But a country song would work too.
This is why people want to do far more to the police than merely defund them.
And they are justified in those desires.
Not exactly a Country song, but this one jumped into my mind.

That was a delightful selection.
