I'd feel safer in a Douglas DC-3.

Buffalo air in Canada regularly flies C-46’s, DC-3’s and DC-4’s in commercial service. So I claim lazy journalism on this one.

I'd feel safer in a Douglas DC-3. Some of those are still in service. I flew on one in 1998. The stewardess told me she had a pilot's license and had flown the plane--the only stewardess I have ever met who had stick time in the plane in which she worked.

1967 or so rode in a C-47 of unknown age, piloted by the last, or one of the last, enlisted Marine pilots. He looked older than the plane, and might have been.

Over 50 years ago, I put a lot of miles in on Trans Texas Airlines DC-3’s in NM and Texas.

Years ago, a DC-3 used to overfly our neighborhood enroute to Mitchell Field. You could hear it thundering along from miles away.
When it finally came into view, it would appear to be just hanging there in the air. I have thought “how could something making so much noise go so slow?”

According to my parents, this was the first plane I flew in as a baby back in 1963.
Lockheed L-188 Electra.
