I think this is a weird medium, and one that lends itself to errors.
I’ve long had a theory that ‘conversing’ on the Internet in a forum like this is a strange amalgam of speech and writing - but it’s not really either one. I think this confuses the brain by employing different functions of it at once.
I often see people confusing words like ‘there’ and ‘their’; but I don’t think it’s because they don’t know the difference - I think it’s because of the medium and the brain confusion.
(I think I’m pretty good at grammar; but despite knowing very well the difference, I can be relied upon to mess up ‘its’ and ‘it’s’ on almost a daily basis :-)
Everything is less structured with the increased number of marginally literate text-on-phone addicts.
