“Based on an expected life of 13,000 cycles they are projecting 100 years/ 1 million miles.”

If that gets into the mass market then I’m on board with batteries, assuming it’s safe and isn’t too expensive.

If you thought a lithium-ion battery fire was hard to extinguish, try dealing with lithium metal as ANY moisture comes into contact with it. Vast generation of hydrogen, which is easily ignited and burns with the hottest chemical flame of all.

It does not matter how sophisticated the battery design may be, battery-driven electric vehicles are a technological dead end. If only somebody could come up with an on-board electrical generation system that did not rely on a plug-in connection....

“to EV’s which are more efficient and use energy supplies other than fossil fuels.”

I’m thinking hard, but I can’t come up with a source that’s reliable or as efficient as our current system. It’s not windmills or solar panels.

I’ve got an idea — how about using the undesirable parts of society (political prisoners and climate deniers) to turn big hamster wheels? Instead of locking people up, we can make them generate power. And the best part is - full employment!

Nevertheless, Yo-Yo’s math is correct: it would take 2 megawatts for 3 minutes to completely charge a completely discharged 100 kilowatt-hour battery, assuming no losses during charging.

That’s roughly the equivalent of 13 150 kW Tesla superchargers.

“’We have achieved in the lab 5,000 to 10,000 charge cycles in a battery’s lifetime, compared with 2,000 to 3,000 charging cycle...”

So...a 2.5 to 3 times greater chance to burn your house down.

Joy, joy.

Kinda glosses over the laws of physics....how much heat would be generated on the components during this magical transfer of energy?

Great picture! Remember touring a downtown CO as a kid, still remember being dwarfed by rows and rows of switching equipment and clicking from (I think) relays.

This is a temp type charge not a full charge. Designed to get
you a few miles down the road, home from work, etc. Kinda like
a gallon gasoline can in your car for to use if you run out of gas.

Great so I can use my car “most” of the time instead of all the time.

I could imagine future EVs being equipped with a slot for a small capacity emergency battery pack with enough juice to get you a few tens of miles. That way if your battery goes dead in the middle of five lane rush hour traffic, a crew can come out and throw in a battery pack so you can limp to the next charging station rather than needing to be towed. IOW the battery equivalent of the gallon of gas you mentioned.

I haven’t seen anything on the solid state carbon batteries lately but last I saw they were to be available in 2025. Lightweight, energy dense, long life. I think Nissan is involved.

It comes with a kite, string and a key that only fits the string.

Eat enough of it and your body will store the energy. Converting it back to energy from storage is kinda hard though
