The jam just happened. One take - “oh, they left the tape rolling?” Wow.

Most definitely. Always loved that guitar riff.

Another example of a good riff was Monkey Man.

Keith Richards said in his book Life “I am proudly a failed lead guitarist like the great Chuck Berry.”

Some failure.

Pete Townshend said something similar about not being a lead guitarist. Both did okay.

Mick Taylor on lead guitar fo ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’

Who knows, but Mick left the group, and so Ronnie Wood would replace him, good choice by the Stones.

“Mick Taylor on lead guitar”

“Who knows, but Mick…”

Who knows?

Says so on the liner notes. Got the LP right here

His playing is recognizable as well. It’s why I mentioned it. That is not Kieth Richards nor Ronnie Wood, nothing against them.

The version of “Can you her me knocking” on Sticky Fingers Live from the Fonda Theater in my opinion is the best version of the song.

"Can't you hear me knocking?" Yes, I hear you knocking.

Yes, I can hear you knocking. Keep a-knocking, but you can't come in. I know you've been drinking gin. You've been cheating around other men. I'm busy, so you can't come in.

“Keith” tuning! Open G. Beginners can learn to play a song on their first lesson with this tuning. Kieth would remove the low E string for open G songs cause you never need it.

Dig the straight up Freddie King signature lick Mick plays during the jam out. Keith’s open G raw licks are the star of the show tho.

Break out your gtar. Here’s how to play it:

I will check that out.

As much as I like Mick Taylor’s guitar on the studio version, it is the sax that makes the song superb. Bobby Keys, IIRC.

Excellent use of the song in the movie “Casino”.

“Keith Richards said in his book Life “I am proudly a failed lead guitarist like the great Chuck Berry.” “

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Great quote. I also saw in an interview with him where he said (near-quote), “When Elvis came out, everyone wanted to be like Elvis. But I wanted to be Scotty Moore. [trademark phlegmmy laugh].”

Led to great things.

For those who would have to look this up, Scotty Moore was the guitarist for Elvis from 1954 to 1968.
