The answer lies in the earlier history of the UFO phenomenon.
In the 1950s the “aliens” told the contactees they were from Mars and Venus.
Starting with the New Hampshire Hills abduction in the 1960s the “aliens” starting showing star maps and pointing to different star systems.
They lie.
They are tricksters.
They tell people what they think is palatable at the time.
That does not make them any less “real”—if anything it shows how smart they are...
