TORONTO — Marsha Hunt, one of the last surviving actors from Hollywood’s so-called Golden Age of the 1930s and 1940s who worked with performers ranging from Laurence Olivier to Andy Griffith in a career disrupted for a time by the McCarthy-era blacklist, has died. She was 104.
Hunt, who appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows, died Wednesday at her home in Sherman Oaks, California, said Roger Memos, the writer-director of the 2015 documentary “Marsha Hunt’s Sweet Adversity.”
A Chicago native, she arrived in Hollywood in 1935 and over the next 15 years appeared in dozens of films, from the Preston Sturges comedy “Easy Living” to the adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” that starred Olivier and Greer Garson.

Be careful using the N word. I suggest X next time.
You got that right
She wasn’t a communist. Just went to some peace conferences.
But with her it was apparently a false accusation.
Heard that Will Geer was a communist until he learned their stand on homosexuality.
My last post on Twitter was over a month ago.
I made a simple statement of fact. There are two genders, “Trans” is a psychiatric condition, not a surgical one.
Yep, I violated community policies regarding hate speech. Permanent removal.
Wrote the same thing on Truth social, no problem.
I understand protesting the Un-American Affairs Committee - that right there is an unconstitutional mess if I’ve ever learned of one (I wasn’t born yet for it), as association is a freedom afforded to us by the First Amendment.
I dislike Commies as much as the next proper American, but that McCarthyist period was just as screwed up as things are now with the Republican with hunts conducted by the [deep] state, corporatists and Big Tech working together. Our ability to associate, operate businesses and speak our minds are actively being hindered, just as it was for people then, and while I will never re-align my political beliefs on a large scale, I still accept a person’s right to speak their mind and believe as they see fit.
Once we get past polite politics though, and into violence towards a group, that’s a line I consider unacceptable.
I enjoyed this actress professionally, but she did not garner my admiration politically. I knew how old she was and wondered how much longer she had. I wish her peace.
She was more a useful idiot?
What a rip off. She was hoping to celebrate 105.
I’d hardly put this woman with the other two pillars of power. I still think we’re at two. Another powerful politician will be called home soon.
“N” is common usage for an unknown. Isn’t that what the post is about? (I don’t know; I might be reading it wrong.)
Brandon? He’ll actually cause more damage dead than alive, because he’ll leave the world with Cackles the wonder wh#re at the helm.
Thanks. I always liked the story, but forgot the details.
According to the California state legislature's Committee on Un-American Activities (I have most of its reports) She took part in a couple ofprotests in support of the Hollywood Ten, including a rally by the Progressive Citizens of America at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, across the street from USC--and that's about all she did. Seems she was more of a naive airhead than a hard-core Stalinist like Jane Fonda.
You are right of course. I was making a joke. I apologize. I really should have known better. Perhaps a wink or smile icon would have helped.
And don’t get me started on N! :)
I joke about this, but some liberal lurker will take it seriously. I think I know of some on FreeRepublic who may be seeing $ signs at the prospect of rewriting math textbooks for purposes of racial sensitivity.
The derisive term “McCarthyism” was an invention of the Communist Party USA.
Isn’t about time for another self-referential movie about the courage of those who were so-called “blacklisted”? It seems like one of those comes out every 10-15 years so we numbskulls understand how brave the commies in Hollywood were in pining for installation of a Soviet regime here.
The very same who somehow have zero interest in the Epstein list.
Hollywood was full of degenerates back then.
