These disposal problems of old windmill blades and used lithium-ion batteries could end up dwarfing the disposal problem of “spent” uranium fuel rods, which have to be kept in protective storage for 10,000 years before the radioactivity dies down to a tolerable level.

But for the fuel rods, there is a definite time, though far in the future, when they become relatively harmless. No such time frame exists for the lithium-ion batteries or windmill blades.

Send these materials through a plasma-arc trash disposal system, rendering their composition back to the elements from which they were first created.

How many kilowatts does it take to power a plasma-arc anyways ?

Doesn’t sound very cost effective.
