EU and U.S. imports of Russia's main base metal products aluminium and nickel during March-June increased by as much as 70%, official trade data compiled by Reuters from the United Nations Comtrade database show.

The total value of EU and U.S. imports of the two metals from March to June were $1.98 billion...

Analysts said the United States and Europe have learned lessons after huge disruption on construction, auto and power sectors caused by sanctions imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump on Russian aluminium 2018.

Russia's Rusal is the world's largest aluminium producer outside China and accounts for about 6% of estimated world production.

U.S. monthly imports of Russian aluminium averaged 23,049 tonnes in March-June, up 21% from the same period last year.

Russia accounts for about 10% of global output and the country's Nornickel (GMKN.MM) makes about 15%-20% of the world's battery-grade nickel.

Nickel imports from Russia by the top three destinations in March-June rose 17% year-on-year.

The United States saw the biggest gains, surging 70% compared to last year, while EU shipments gained 22%.

Aluminum is most common metal on the Earth. It is everywhere!
But it is made by electrolysis (the same method they make hydrogen, BTW).
This just burns electrical power!
Too much energy used.
That why they are closing Aluminum plants in Europe!
How Russia makes power? By burning coal!
Another example of outsourcing coal!
Somehow, in the minds of bureaucrats, coal burnt in Russia, China and India is just great for the Earth, while the same coal burnt in Europe and America is soo bad!

Interesting fact: The cap on the top of the Washington Monument is made of solid aluminum, and at the time of it’s casting, around 1900, it was the largest one piece casting of aluminum ever done.

Aluminum was quite expensive and exotic in 1900.

Unbeknownst to most, the American steel and aluminum industries were in serious danger of going out of business when Trump took office. Trump righted the ship and stabilized these industries.

Biden is putting them out of business.
