Oh for sure I know. I had my CDL taken away from me a few years ago by my State. They now require a ‘State DOT’ Physical. That is new. Well I have not driven in a long while. Of course it is like riding a bicycle, you cannot forget it.
I have not required it in a long time, yet I feel robbed. I earned that thing. I drove for years in Europe, for the Army. It was quite the adventure in my 20s. I saw so much and met so many. I never did it full time as a civilian though, always just moonlighting.
I suppose that I simply have a problem with acknowledging that I am retired. I keep thinking about that 2 Thessalonians 3:10. It does not feel right to me. It is akin to indolence.
Oh, driving is pretty much the same; the technology has evolved somewhat. However, the highways are no where near as safe for one thing. The other, 'owner operator' is the new norm; you provide the truck, the repairs, the insurance, the fuel - you get the idea - and then you hope that your broker won't broker you into bankruptcy.
Then of course there are the lot lizards at the truck stops, the scams, the human trafficking - oh, and the pocket rockets. 😬
