I’m not excusing bad behavior but a lot of former military are like that. My dad was former military and while he tried to control his temper, sometimes he failed. He got mad at me when I was 17 over something really silly and nearly beat me to death. I packed my things that night and moved out. I never went back.
My husband is former military. He was a Drill Sargeant, firearms instructor, hand-to-hand combat instructor, and jump instructor. He spent over a year in Korea on the DMZ in the early 60’s. We had a rocky first 20 years of marriage before I got him mellowed out. He told me early in the marriage that as long as I never hit him, I was safe. His first wife hit him once and he said his fist hit her face before his brain even registered that he did it. He punched her through a sliding glass door. When he told me that I stood on my tiptoes, all 5’4”, 116 pounds of redheaded me, and told him that if he ever hit me I would kill him in his sleep. He must have believed me because after 40 years he has never raised a hand to me. LOL The last time he told me that Korean wives did all the work I reminded him that he wasn’t in the Army anymore, we didn’t live in Korea, and I wasn’t Korean. It’s been smooth sailing since then. He’s been a teddy bear for the last 20 years. I briefly dated a guy before I got married right after he came home from Vietnam and everytime a car backfired his eyes went crazy and I thought I was going to get hurt. We didn’t date for long.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes the military affects them. They have demons. My husband said they are taught to kill and it’s hard to turn off the violence. Sometimes it takes years. They aren’t the same when they come out. They don’t always come out watching what they say and how they say it. They don’t always talk “pretty”.
Since I grew up around it and have been married to it for more than half my life, I guess it seems more normal to me and I don’t notice it. Compared to what I have seen out of other veterans, I thought Derek was mild.

TC, was the video you saw the one of DJ in a truck? Or was it the one a little over 3 hours long, with him wearing a cowboy hat in an indoor setting? That one, although very very long, wasn't nearly so "scream-y" as the truck video was.
