One of my coworkers only gets his gas at the Costco, which is about a 20 minute drive for him from his house. He tells me he has to wait in line usually around 30 minutes, to save the 10 cents/gallon.
I’ve tried to talk sense into him, but the dude is stubborn. He has a Kia Soul, which can only have a max 13 gallon tank (could be 9 possibly), so I say the most amount you can save is $1.30. For a 30 minute wait and 40 minute driving round trip!
First of all, he eats up all his savings just on the commute to the Costco and back. Second, doesn’t your time have any value to you? You’re so pathetic that you don’t mind spending an hour of your life, your free time from work, every week just to get gasoline?
And I’ve seen the fees to get a membership at Costco. I’d be surprised if you save enough on their products in total through the year to cover that fee. I’ve also seen how packed their parking lot is all the time, there’s no way the hassle and dealing with those packed aisles and waits at the checkout can be worth it, no freaking way!
Yeah as retirees we can hit Costco at 9am senior hour and breeze through, and the gas pumps are clear as rush hour is over. But I can see the challenge if you can’t.
What some people might not know is that Costco will sell items online to non-members for a 5% upcharge. I don’t get enough savings throughout the year to justify the $60 charge. If you rent cars frequently, you can usually make your fee in one or two rentals.
There is NO WAY I will ever sit in the gas line at Costco my time is worth FAR MORE than the $2.00 a tank I save GEEZE!!!

We save that on gas alone.
And you can’t beat their return policy! No other store can beat it.

I take it you have never been in a Costco!

We have the executive membership @ $120/yr. Excluding major purchases we spend about $500 per month just on food, shirts, shorts, wine, etc.
We get 2% back which recovers the $120 fee!
