love watching great horses run...this undefeated colt is a great one...
“How do his times line up against Secretariat? Is he in the ballpark?”
Mile and a quarter races:
Secretariat 1973 Kentucky Derby 1:59.4, still the record after 49 years.
Flightline 2022 Pacific Classic 1:59.28 .
4 year old Flightline will never contend for the triple crown, but he does have Secretariat-like speed.
May or may not be a Secretarial, but who cares?
That was beautiful.
Just trying to add to the conversation, ummmm Relax....
i agree..i just love watching great race horses do their thing....
Comparing different races and trips on different tracks and surfaces over a half century a part does not a fair nor accurate conclusion draw. And Flightline, while indeed gifted and exciting to watch, is 5 and 0 at present.
I LOVE the Breeder’s Cup races .... one of the reasons Fall is my favorite season.
Would love to have horses again (had them for 40 years), but it would take winning the lotto to do it. They are expensive and I would have to hire stable help ... I’ve done enough stall mucking, etc. that I’m not going back there!
you are correct..hes 5-0 life time...i misread his line...
I ended up getting a name off a National Georgraphic story & it was approved: “Winter Ocean”. My horse was a gray. :-)
The 2nd colt, had him gelded so I didn’t go to the trouble to register him, was named “Early Autumn”. Not sure if the Jockey Club would have taken that. He was a bay, but had copper highlights in his coat, so the name fit ... sort of had a seasonal theme going.
The third colt belonged to someone else - they had leased my mare. They did their own naming thing.
BTW, I knew there was something about the Preakness Record and here’s an article to explain it.
The article talks about the problems with the timing of the race and it was until 2012 that Secretariat’s time was lowered to officially give him the fastest times in all 3 races of the Triple Crown.

“they say” the great ones come along every 50 years..it was 50 years between Man O War and Secretariat...and now its been 50 years since “Big Red”....as a huge race fan, i watch and i wait...
why they waited until 2012 to do that was just stupid...there was a controversy the day it happened...just replay the race and time it...geez...
Wow! A little push at the end instead of letting up and it’s a new record.
It might have been stupid, but it happened...Jeez...
dude..you are taking this too personal...i was talking about the RACING AUTHORITIES...take a nap bro...
well..Secretariat did lose 5 times.....
exactly...ran 1:09 and change the first 6 furlongs...hes was movin!!
In the title of the thread, it says, “Best Since Secretariat” ???
I was trying to answer the question and add to the conversation by saying basically there was only one Secretariat.
A couple of years ago, Bill Belichick was asked something about Khalil Mack being compared to Lawrence Taylor, basically Belichick said he was not going to compare anyone to Lawrence Taylor because he was in a class by himself. That’s where I was coming from.
People today often say the latest and greatest anything is the greatest ever, when all it really it is the greatest, they’ve seen, not the GOAT...
Just trying to offer a different perspective, not create controversy.
Perhaps naps should be the order of the day for a number of people besides myself.
FUN FACT: Secretariat’s heart weighed 22 pounds, which is big even for a horse.
