Dinesh D'Souza '2000 Mules' Book Suddenly Recalled Over 'Significant Error'
Newsweek ^ | 8/30/2022 | Mordowanec

The book 2000 Mules written by conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza was supposed to hit book shelves on August 30 but has been recalled because of an unspecified "significant error."

The release of the book comes after the debut of D'Souza's film of the same name, which claims widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Like the film, the book alleges that the Democratic Party and "mules" carrying bags of votes swayed results in President Joe Biden's favor.

D'Souza wrote on Truth Social that early copies of his book had been "recalled."

When errors in college textbooks are discovered after the books have been printed and ready for distribution, a one page errata sheet is included. Why could that not have been done for the first printing? The second printing can correct any errors when printed

Yeah, I know a young woman who is a novelist. She tried to write sort of traditional Sci Fi and got nowhere. She wrote a book about homosexual vampires and hit #2 on the UK Times bestseller list

But was it fact or fiction?

kidding lol

Regnery’s ownership might have something to do with this.

Also might be distributors exerting pressure.

My bet is that whatever this is about, it’s not an error.

Regnery was once a very conservative publishing house. I knew the Regnery family, neighbors of mine. I think the family no longer actually runs the company and I seriously wonder what the heck is going on.

I doubt there’s an error, just a way to keep the book from influencing the election.

Yes, the preface was page numbered in upper case Roman Numerals instead of lower case. Cannot have books with such a serious error get to customers ahead of the midterms.

I read about 1/2 the book. The main character is a lesbian vampire.

Well. A lesbian vampire! That's different, unless she looks like the pictures we see posted here on occasion that inform viewers of what lesbians look like when not appearing on the silver screen!

Errata slips have to be inserted by hand. That is what makes them too expensive to be used anymore, especially on a huge first printing.

Thank you for that information. For a textbook with perhaps a 1000 copies for the first printing it is not that big of a deal.

I think October Surprise is much more likely than sabotage by a lefty. It’s now due to be published two weeks before the November election. The timing couldn’t be better, as most people’s memories are short, and also if it came out now it would be old news by November 8.

Although I don’t think it was intentional on D’Souza’s part or anyone else’s. D’Souza is an honest guy and wouldn’t do that.

Maybe Someone Else had a hand in it, though.

That would be my guess too. Some sharp person read an early proof or bound copy and warned D’Souza or the publisher that there was an actionable statement about somebody in there.

That may be it; see

https://www.npr.org/2022/09/08/1121648290/a-publisher-abruptly-recalled-the-2-000-mules-election-denial-book-npr-got-a-cop

Here’s what’s in the book:

D’Souza names nonprofits that he claims helped ‘steal’ the 2020 election
The central thesis of “2,000 Mules” is essentially that left-wing nonprofit groups engaged in illegal ballot trafficking and paid people (the “mules” of the title) to gather ballots and stuff dropboxes with pro-Biden votes. To build that case, “2,000 Mules” relies on True the Vote, which claims that it used cell phone location data to prove its case.

The film version of “2,000 Mules” does not name a single nonprofit that D’Souza or True the Vote allege took part in the alleged scheme, let alone give them a chance to respond to the accusation that they committed crimes.

D’Souza told interviewers that the reason for the omission was due to legal concerns.

“Basically, when you’re putting a movie in the theater, you need three different types of insurance,” D’Souza told Megyn Kelly on her podcast earlier this year. “And so we got into a big fight with these lawyers who insisted that we can’t name the nonprofits. Now, normally, I would have battled them over this. But the problem was I was trying to get the movie out right away because it’s so timely.”

The book, however, does name seven different groups. NPR contacted all of them for comment.

One of the groups D’Souza names is the New Georgia Project, an Atlanta-based group that focuses on registering and mobilizing young voters and voters of color.

Aklima Khondoker, the Chief Legal Officer for the New Georgia Project, called the allegations “malarkey and hogwash. Because they’re not based in fact. They’re based on conspiracy theories.”

Khondoker said the allegations in D’Souza’s book “can be viewed as libelous,” and noted that neither True The Vote nor D’Souza contacted the New Georgia Project for comment - a fundamental step for any journalistic or documentary project.

Khondoker declined to say whether the New Georgia Project would take legal action in response to the book, but said, “It sounds like a bunch of lies committed to paper. And there are legal consequences for doing that.”

A spokesperson for the labor union the National Education Association (NEA), which D’Souza also names in the book, condemned the allegations as “trash,” noting that D’Souza’s attorneys apparently would not allow him to name any groups in his film.

“We would hope anyone looking at his nonsense can quickly see that these claims are false and designed to gin up those who persist in peddling the Big Lie about the 2020 election,” said the NEA spokesperson.

Other groups declined to comment, with one citing a desire not to give the project “further oxygen.” Given the dubious nature of the allegations, NPR is not naming the groups that did not comment.

NPR asked True the Vote whether it provided the names of the groups to D’Souza. Brian Glicklich, the group’s spokesperson, did not answer that question directly, but simply re-sent the group’s statement with “We made no such allegations” in bold.

Thanks for the information. Everybody involved knows that the plan was to get Biden elected and they know their organization’s professed part of the plan, but they don’t know all the details, so they can deny the charges and sue.

What is your prediction about the effectiveness of the media gaslighting about “false stolen election “ claims? We have never had such a monolithic leftist media before now — will history even record the widespread belief in our election fraud?

My first thought was that a lot depends on whether the country comes out of the current mess. But academics and the liberal media need Trump to be the villain and his claims to always be "without evidence." So even if they have to back away from Biden and his politics, that won't change.

There's an underground suspicion that the election of 1960 wasn't entirely on the up and up. People talk about it, but you won't hear much about it from the Establishment media. Too many people need Kennedy to be the hero and Nixon to be the villain.

If somebody on the inside reveals what really happened in 2020 it will cause a momentary stir, but it will probably be buried. I doubt Biden's going to be much of a hero to people, but Trump rubs too many of the people writing the history the wrong way.

In this case they've modified #4 a bit, swapping stupid for "significant error", and will simply never or never meaningfully discuss it again. Obviously #5 has been used.

The Left’s Core Strategy #1: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

The Left’s Core Strategy #2: Scream accusations of racism(or racist attacks) at anything you don't like or which slows your agenda.

The Left’s Core Strategy #3: Intensely attack Republicans for actions you are undertaking.

The Left’s Core Strategy #4: Attack Republicans as stupid, but do NOT discuss it further.

The Left’s Core Strategy #5: When all else fails, censor speech and if needed deploy violence.

Repeat
