From the article: “I do just enough to not get fired or noticed,”
No great revelation to anyone who’s ever seen “Office Space”.
Lots of places there’s no point in doing any more; you’ll never get a raise, nor a promotion, nor develop any more skills. Family run business are the worst; you can walk to work on water and do 20 hours unpaid labor a week for months but the boss’s idiot son will get the next promotion.
I don’t mind busting ass, indeed, I’ve made a good living being willing to do so, but only when there’s something in it for me. If they want 100%, then I’d better be getting raises and be in line for the next promotion, otherwise they can F-off.
lol...this is not new for sure. But I do think its got exponentially worse with normalizing the large scale ‘work from home’ dynamic.
I’ve known at least one or two people like this everyplace I’ve worked. Some are actually pretty good at it. Some will chat up the boss every time they’re around. That 15 minute conversation was 15 minutes they didn’t have to work and they wouldn’t get in trouble for talking to the boss. Some people would be moving all day but not really produce anything. Lots of walking but no production. Some worked very hard at not working.
