Depends on the company and their culture, I suspect. It's reciprocal. Which came first, chicken or the egg. Someone has to start not caring first.

The companies already don’t care about you, whether you work hard or not. That is unless you are lucky enough to work for one of the dwindling number of small businesses that are still operational. Even then they probably can’t afford to care about you very much.

They never have. Inflation-adjusted wages have been stagnant since 1971 even as companies have laid off and offshored like made, and the GDP has increased 400%.
The money has gone to executives, hedge-fund investors, gargantuan new government bureaucracies, and welfare queens and illegal immigrants.

Newsflash: They don't. Any company that says, "Our people are our most important asset!" is lying through their teeth.
They'll close up shop and move overseas at a moment's notice once the decision is made that there's a short-term benefit to the bottom line.
