SNL died when Belushi and Akroyd left.
Yup. I think he just got tired of the constant monotonous nature of it all.
It was over when Johnny Carson retired.
Walter Cronkite’s Last Broadcast

Jim Fowler - Johnny would tell jokes about Marlon Perkins beforehand.
Yes, he could be funny, but he's like an exotic French cheese - there's always an aftertaste of "ew", even in his better nights.
I watched Johnny Carson from a young age. I would check TV Guide to see who was on, and then sneak watch if I could. He was always my number one. I remember watching Freddie Prince from his first time on Johnny, then Chico and the Man. I also watched Roseanne Barr’s first appearances. I loved The Tonight Show. I never watch the Demonicrat-hosted trash.
Anyone remember Tom Snyder?
You got that right.
Eddie Murphy as Buck Wheat was spectacular.
RoseAnna Danna...
Then they Mafia type priest?
The cone heads
Belushi man was he great.
Akroyd and Martin....great team.
Then who’s the guy, the news guy? Bill Murry?
“Jane you miserable Slut”
Oh sure! Once Gutfeld starts kicking in the teeth of these late-night red-diaper-doper-babies; suddenly it’s the “end of an era”. Whatever.
Never heard of them. Next stop: "Would you like fries with that?"
The 50’s were the Golden Age of America. Period. As far as TV goes, tentacles of it lingered on via Carson, Leno, Dean Martin Roast, Carol Burnett show, early SNL, Bob Hope specials, Mannix, Charlies Angels etc.
Agreed. He was the last good one. He was liberal but he'll make jokes about everyone including Bill Clinton. He'll there to do a show and to entertain everyone. Apparently that's a lost art.
Phil Hartman as Reagan and Clinton were both classics.
“Jim, let me tell you something...there’s gonna be a lot of things we don’t tell Mrs. Clinton about.”
If he was motivated, he could have replaced Jay Leno. That's not the case. Plus he wouldn't have the support from the bosses in NBC, which is a must. Norm Macdonald found that out.
Carol Burnett was great.
Great skits.
Great team.
Always a good time.
That was Phil Hartman....Piscopo did Ebony and Ivory with Stevie Wonder.
I am black and you are white
You are blind as a bat and I have sight
Side by side, you are my amigo
Negro....let's not fiiiiight!
” Steve Allen and Jack Paar...”
There are youtube videos of those guys.
In the morning there was Dave Garroway.
I am not sure Leno is a complete liberal.
He is good friends with Tim Allen and has said he listens to talk radio. I do not think he is a conservative but I do not think he is a flaming leftist
