Tom Clancy took all his details from friends in the intelligence/military community. All he did was rewrite it into exciting plots with realistic characters modeled on personal acquaintances.
IIRC, he was an insurance salesman.
Given the politics at play in the nation's capitol as on this and similar threads, a little look at why someone posts what they do is in order. Babble on asserts the war is lost to Russia. Others assert it is lost to the current government in Ukraine. As the event is not at its conclusion, asserting either is rather a bit like the assertions for climate change -- forecasting a future which is as yet indeterminate.
What is not indeterminate is the amount of American lives and treasure that have been expended in the wars since Clinton bombed Serbia/Kosovo. Billions are flowing out from the US. Might one use the verb, hemorrhaging? And Biden's continuing transfers to this current war might well be as "winning" as have been the last twenty years of American military actions, where there is no proof of winning any war. Or have you other sources and documentation than I? Perhaps a different definition of "winning?"
That is what my comment has to do with the topic at hand.
Translation: The Russians have been very restrained thus far. Their patience has run out. Ukraine is about to get its ass kicked to even a greater extent than it already has.
