Upon doing Ancestry research, I discovered that hubby’s maternal great-great-great-grandfather, Archibald Stewart, owned about 200 slaves in Alabama. He lost everything in the civil war and left for Texas in 1866 where he promptly became wealthy again. Go figure. The acorn fell far from the tree in our case, lol.
you always wonder....how were the slaves really treated....all peoples were whipped in those days....or hung...probably treated better than what they left. the blacks of today should be grateful that their ancestors.
