On her twelfth and final patrol of the war, USS Barb (SS-220) landed a party of carefully selected crew members who blew up a train, the only ground combat operation in the Japanese home islands.

Barb, under the command of Eugene Fluckey (Medal of Honor and 4 Navy Crosses) is also credited with sinking the aircraft carrier Un'yō.
