Similar question, will a M1a shoot 168 grain ammo or stick to 147 grain?

The Garand likes 147 grain ammo. Use that.

It is NOT about the bullet weight, it is the powder. Faster burning powder increases pressure to quickly which may bend the op rod. Todays 30.06 powder is not the same burning rate.

I have reloaded Garand ammo to M2 USGI specs for decades.
