CHICAGO - A Chicago woman has been charged with the first degree murder of a fellow panhandler as they fought over turf along the Edens Expressway last Friday, according to Cook County prosecutors.
Mary Normand, 26, repeatedly struck the man with a 3-foot-long metal stake and then pushed him under a moving box truck, Assistant State’s Attorney Danny Hanichak said.
After Eriberto Hernandez was run over, she continued beating him with the stake while he cried for help, Hanichak said.
Hernandez was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead the following day, according to officials. His death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner.
The fight began around 2:42 p.m. when Normand became upset that Hernandez was panhandling on the southbound ramp at Wilson Avenue, a ramp she claimed as her own, Hanichak said.
The pair allegedly had an ongoing issue about working that area.

Judge Maryam Ahmad ordered Normand held without bail on a count of first-degree murder.

The competition during the Biden era is stiff. So many panhandlers I think they unionized.
Our city became very tolerant of squatters in public parks. Then one squatter killed another in a literal turf war.
I was sad of course. Still, I got a chuckle over what I imagined to be their argument:
“This is MY public property.”
“No, it’s MY public property.”
Was Hernandez an illegal alien?

America’s Mayor (Rudy Giuliani) was right: “The Broken Windows” theory of law enforcement works. You arrest petty criminals for minor offenses and overall crime statistics drop as well.
Chicago has quit enforcing its laws and all types of petty crimes are flourishing. The number of beggars and panhandlers has skyrocketed. It is hard to pass through any intersection with traffic lights without encountering aggressive panhandlers. The only crimes that draw police responses are murders.
Dang. I thought she would be pretty skanky. But she’s young and not bad looking.

I had a workmate tell me about the panhandlers in Denver and their deal with the police. I don’t know if it’s true or not.
