"Trump has tarnished his administration’s legacy and betrayed the GOP"

BY JOSEPH BOSCO, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Former President Trump seems determined to detract from the substantial accomplishments of his administration, especially its transformation of critical U.S.-Taiwan-China relations.

His behavior since the 2020 election also has deeply damaged the reputation and prospects of the Republican Party, which honored him twice with its presidential nomination and defended him loyally against both partisan attacks and legitimate criticism.

Most importantly, Trump’s actions have seriously undermined American democracy at home and its image abroad.

On China and Taiwan, Trump’s no-nonsense approach startled China’s communist regime, which was accustomed to decades of bipartisan engagement that brought prosperity and military power to Beijing while working to the West’s economic and security disadvantage.

Trump ended that dynamic, demanding transparency and reciprocity from China and using tariffs and sanctions as leverage. For the first time ever in dealing with a U.S. administration, China was put in a no-win situation. If it did not comply with Trump’s trade conditions, the hammer of financial penalties would fall.

But if it made the required changes in its economic system, that also would mean political reform, an existential challenge to Communist Party rule. Chinese leader Xi Jinping did not intend to emulate the evolution of South Korea and Taiwan from dictatorship to democracy.

You've got to dig deep to find out how Trump "tarnished" his and the country's reputation. Then you finally get to this tripe...
His claims of fraud and electoral wrongdoing may have seemed superficially plausible given the extent of unusual voting procedures because of pandemic restrictions. But, as his multiple legal challenges failed for lack of supporting evidence, it became clear that his claims were at first a delusional obsession, but ultimately a cynical fabrication to hold onto power at all cost.

It is because of that legacy that he will be voted in again.

The 2020 election was stolen from Trump, and like anyone that has had something stolen from him/her, fighting back is to be expected. If Trump had not fought back, the country would be in a lot worse shape by now, because, the thieves would have been emboldened thinking that they had won approval and had a mandate to rule as they wish.

The country needs Trump and he’s coming back.

This is a paradox. Leading a charge to clean up a dirty election process in America cannot be viewed as undermining the American democratic republic or democracy anywhere "abroad". This article is only more foolishness from The Hill

There are a sizeable number of “republicans” who have drank the swamp water in DC. This is how/why you can have a place where 90% plus of the populace think and say the same things.

There is very little diversity of thought inside the beltway when it comes to anything “Trump”.

Trump was (and is) viewed as an existential threat to their “government”. Trump threatens their superiority, livelihoods, and principles so they are hysterical about him. The founders understood that the best way to combat this was to have a decentralized government where states had power and the federal government had specific roles and no role beyond.

That ship sailed and we now live in a world they warned us about.

These idiots writing these op eds don’t realize it white noise to the general public. They write them to make themselves feel better.

Trump is actually the only man in DC who’s ever kept his word and his focus on the American public. This I know conflicts with business as usual in Washington so it’s no surprise that swamp creatures continue to try and diminish him. Trump set the bar so high to be a successful politician that lifers can’t cope. They look impotent and vindictive. Hilarious to watch.

only thing Trump “tarnished” was the RINOs. The tarnish is called truth serum.

Joe Bosco, Deep State stooge!
Joseph Bosco served as China country director for the secretary of Defense from 2005 to 2006 and as Asia-Pacific director of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief from 2009 to 2010. He served in the Pentagon when Vladimir Putin invaded Georgia and was involved in Department of Defense discussions about the U.S. response.

I think he got it ass backward. The GOP betrayed Trump and therefore their voters.

I think it was Thomas Sowell who said the road to hell is paved with Ivy League degrees. How right he was. We’re there. The only question in my mind is how deep we are going to descend.
