I worked 3rd shift when I was young, too. Many night owls prefer that shift.

My next door neighbor retired a few years ago after working the midnight shift for 40 years and he’s unable to sleep at night. Shouldn’t be a problem as he’s a widower and lives alone and can sleep whenever he wants to. He put a very noticeable sign on his door that says, “day sleeper” and people still knock on his door in the day time.

Changing his sleep pattern after 40 years must be very difficult now, unless he prefers that schedule?

Many people prefer 3rd shift because, after work, you have the whole morning and early afternoon to enjoy when stores, banks, restaurants, etc., are open.

Many people say 2nd shift (4PM-12AM) is the worst, and bosses told me they have trouble finding people willing to work that shift. The problem is, most people can't fall asleep right away after work. You have to wind down, so you're wide awake until 4AM. By the time you wake up at noon, you have a few hours to get things done before you have to go to work again.
