Perreault, 63, was struck by the umbrella while at Beach Access 14, according to a Horry County Emergency Management incident report. According to the report, witnesses said an umbrella from the Sea Watch Hotel had been blown from the ground into the air. The umbrella tumbled "end over end down the beach until it struck the victim on the left side of the upper torso," the report said. Perreault was transferred to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

If she was wearing body armor, this might have been non-fatal.
Maybe the usual suspects in Congress need to pass some mandates for beach wear.
Maybe some common sense umbrella laws? If it saves just one life, lol!
Global warming is to blame.
I propose a congressional bill. It can be called the Mary Poppins bill.
Boy that was fate.. Imagine walking down a beach and get killed by a flying umbrella? That is weird.
You can get killed by flying debris or falling objects (like a tree) during any high wind storm. You just never expect such a thing to happen in an empty, open area like a beach. Some soldiers from Fort Benning recently got killed in the Georgia mountains by a falling tree during a storm.
RIP to all of them.
Don’t mess with Mother Nature or Mary Poppins
A woman is killed in a freak accident and the thread is polluted with stupid wisecracks by juvenile jerkoffs. Pathetic.
Life is a series of (seemingly) random events and then you die.
Yeah, I’m sure her family is rolling on the floor with laughter as well.
“A woman is killed in a freak accident and the thread is polluted with stupid wisecracks by juvenile jerkoffs. Pathetic”.
I agree. It really is pathetic. A woman lost her life and idiotic comments are made of it.
I live in Virginia Beach and when a brisk wind kicks up suddenly those big beach service rental umbrellas can roll down the beach like a tumble weed. A few years ago, a tumbling beach umbrella impaled and killed some unfortunate bystander just out for a walk.
Sadly, it was not “Doctor” Jill.
Get a Beach Bub.
May God comfort her family.

It ain’t just the wind, either. Beaches are dangerous. Take a look at this freak accident:

Now go order your dog around. I’m sure he’s doing something you don’t approve of.
Why do you think it’s named Horry County?
