I give it a 10% probability of being true. I recall reading an article some years ago about Trump sending different documents to different people so that when the document leaked to the press, he knew exactly who leaked it.
The larger problem with this being a setup by Trump is that it would have been mostly inconceivable that anyone could predict the FBI would have the gall to make such a raid against a former president, especially on so slight a pretext as they used.
However, the safe did end up being empty, and from what we have seen of the description of the things they took, it certainly doesn't look like they found what they wanted.
And now Trump knows someone who knew about the safe (6-8 people) is a rat.
Maybe it's luck, but Trump is coming out of this thing smelling like a rose.
I cannot imagine there is a long list to review.
Keep in mind, you are hearing one side of the story. The key to this entire story is the affidavit. And we won’t hear anything about that until there is an indictment.
I am sitting on a grand jury right now. I can tell you that there have been several “ham sandwiches” that didn’t pass our smell test. I imagine any indictment starting with “Donald Trump” is going to raise some heated discussion in the back room.
My point is that rumors and innuendo love a vacuum. People are coming up with all sorts of fantastical stories about what is going on. The truth is, we don’t know. And we are receiving biased stories from all over the place.
There are plenty of folks on FR who are “law and order” folks. They are quick to point out when someone doesn’t follow the rules. Except when its Trump—then its a grand conspiracy.
My final point is we should be overly cautious about believing stories that are made up from the ether. We should double check ourselves and look at evidence, not speculation.
