Target, one of former first lady Michelle Obama’s favorite stores, is facing a boycott over its post-Roe v. Wade move to pay the travel costs of employees seeking abortions.
Concerned Women for America, the 500,000-strong conservative women’s policy network, said Target’s plan is a “slap in the face” to pro-life customers and an unnecessary policy to prove it’s a “woke” corporation.
Penny Nance, the CEO and president of CWA, who is leading the group’s “Toss Target” campaign, also said Target does not provide help to pregnant employees who decide to have their children.
“Companies who fund travel to another state for an abortion and don’t provide the extra support for their employees who choose life are practicing discrimination, and their actions are a slap in the face to the more than 70% of Americans who want restrictions on abortion,” Nance told Secrets.
“Target has been on the wrong side of family issues for many years, and it’s time we take our business elsewhere and let their executives and managers know why. In addition, pro-life employees should look for better work and better pay at companies who respect their values,” she added.
The campaign, shared with Secrets, urges women to turn to pro-life companies and products instead of Target. In a video accompanying the campaign, CWA suggests that women looking for similar products as those Target offers shop at Walmart instead.
The campaign hits one of the nation’s biggest retailers at a time when parents are shopping for back-to-school goods that the company’s big box stores specialize in. Typically, there is a Walmart near a Target.
Target has some cachet and is sometimes called “Tarjay” to show that. A poorly disguised Obama was once photographed shopping in a Target about 10 miles from the White House.

Went in one a few weeks ago for the 1st time in probably 2 years for something my wife wanted....didn’t find what we were looking for and walked out empty handed.
Went to Walmart, found it, bought it cheaper no doubt and got on with our life.
target has been off the go to list for years.
I went once sometime before 2010. Didn’t like it. Never went back.
I’ve been in a target once or twice and really they don’t have a big selection like Walmart has. I don’t see what the hype about them is.
This story is just one more reason not to shop there.
“Target does not provide help to pregnant employees who decide to have their children.”
Of course. Women employees with children aren’t helpful to the company. More time off. More cost for health insurance. It’s cheaper for Target to make a one-time payment for someone not to have a kid.
Exactly.
Back before 2011 there was a Target that I could hit during my commute coming home in the evening and I would pick up dark chocolate covered acai berries or something. Not often.
The place always reminds me of the Far Side cartoon.
“Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.”
Uber too. That’s why I never use them. They paid for their employees to get abortions and YOU pay for it when using their service.
I can see it now, “I believe that I am a pregnant trans-woman who needs an abortion. Pay up.”
way ahead of you pard
have been long gone
There’s just no reason for me to go to Target. It’s always been just a slightly upscale version of Walmart.
If I want basic I just go to Walmart. If I want something better I go anywhere else besides Target.
The ONLY credit I’ll give target is for some strange reason they carry a very extensive line of electronic accessories like HDMI cables and hard to find adapters at a very competitive price.
That would be the only reason I would ever even consider going there......and then just MAYBE.
I never shop there anyway so I don't keep up.

a childless employee is a productive employee
What is Yarget?
I haven’t been there since they started letting men use tthe women’s bathrooms.
Haven’t been in a Target since they forgot which bathroom a male should use.
Boycott? Fine, but they should be facing a discrimination lawsuit from some of their employees.
Thanks! It’s good to know I might get hard-to-find electronic accessories at Target if I’m desperate.
