You’d think they’d be hiring better, considering that the average want ad is usually overloaded with about six dozen different requirements.
To: Mozzafiato
And also, when somebody goes into an entry level journalism job, a portfolio of previous work is usually required. So for Heaven’s sake, are the people who examine these portfolios actually able to read?

Yep, “So, my client wasn’t a lethal threat by evidence that you did not shoot to kill and did not need to shoot to kill to end the situation. However, you did use lethal force to maim him, for which he is now suing you.”

Giggle material only. Seems Floridian juries expect that.

Why does a man defending himself, his family and his neighbors have to second guess a stick wielding lunatic?

Police: Lady, are you sure that’s the same naked, mud covered man?
*Pretty sure.
Police: Lady, I need you to be 100% positive that is the correct naked, mud covered man.

"Worried that the naked man could harm his neighbors, Kerr decided to chase the man down the street,"
Okay. Why did he chase naked man on drugs?
"‘Come on out … the police officers are driving up the street. They’ll be here in just a second,’” Kerr recollected telling the man."
So he chased naked man on drugs to talk to him. Okay so far.
"Kerr said that the intruder got up and began trying to hit Kerr with a three-foot-long and several inch thick stick. That was when Kerr pulled out his weapon."
Good. He didn't pull the weapon before naked man on drugs tried to hit him with enough force to cause severe bodily injury or death.
"Kerr said he had aimed for the man’s hands when he shot him, in hopes of getting the intruder to drop the stick."
Kerr is such a nice man, although his target choice might not have stopped the attacker and might have left kerr in mortal danger. At least he didn't shoot to kill, which is good. Shooting to more surely stop the attack might have been better.
If there was nothing more essential to the case and I was on the jury, I'm guessing that I would vote "not guilty." Can't say that I'd risk as much as Kerr did, though.

Not in Florida. The stand your ground law and similar civil law provisions protect Floridians against getting criminally charged or sued for defending themselves. Being a Florida Man means that you get to defend yourself.
To: Rockingham
By chasing a guy, and confronting him? Hardly “standing your ground.” This idiot will be sued, and probably lose.

I watch NextDoor videos, nextdoor.com of my surrounding area and they had 3 with one guy caught on a neighbors roof at night and another holding a screwdriver and ringing the doorbell at 3am. That homeowner talked to him thru the security camera. A 3rd showed a couple checking out the doors of a car in a driveway and a pickup parked on the street and 3rd car further down. Many criminals roaming around in Chatsworth, Canoga Park, Woodland Hills, Calif in the San Fernando valley. All used to be nice areas but the democrats changed that....!

The intruder — nude and filthy and moving through a residential neighborhood — was obviously suspicious and the homeowner followed him in order to point him out to the police, which he had right to do. The man then took up a substantial piece of wood and took a swing at his citizen pursuer, who fired a non-lethal shot in his own defense. The “stand your ground” part is that the citizen had no duty to retreat before firing. The legal circumstances justifying the use of force are similar to those of George Zimmerman’s lethal shooting of Treyvon Martin.
