At the Police Training Academy in Madison, Wis., there are 46 recruits in two groups for the class of 2022. Nikki Acker, 36, is one of nine female trainees in the group who are new to policing.
Part of their training today is how to handcuff a person. Their shoes squeak on the blue floor mats as they practice.
Acker used to be a teller at a credit union and worked in property management. She's 5'4" and never imagined being a police officer until she got a job working as a clerk in the records department.
"I guess I had in my mind the stereotype of these big guys with military backgrounds," she laughs, "and once I started learning more and getting involved in reading reports and seeing the calls, I learned that they're so much more than that."
They're often people with good communication skills, she says, problem-solving skills — and she felt that type of job was something she could do.
Despite all the controversy surrounding policing, her husband and friends encouraged her to try it.(snip)

Female officers with children who work a daytime shift often don't try for promotions so they can keep their family-friendly hours. Something a male officer rarely has to contemplate.
What can also be daunting are the physical aspects of the entrance exam. For example, applicants must be able to do 15 pushups to get in the door, then 18 at the beginning of training and 23 at the end.

If a 200 lb male brute does not want to be handcuffed the female officer is in danger. He can easily grab her and take her weapon. I assume this is ignored during training.
This will result in more police officers and criminals killed.

In training the physical limitation of female officers are often over looked.
Male officers are often told to take it easy on the female officers.
I read about a routine that L.A. and other cops face where they see the big group of thugs, gangsters, and ex-cons, bikers, and such at the end of the alley doing their thing, talking, drinking, bonding, sharing plans, weapons, and drugs, etc., it used to be the duty of the male cops to go down there and make a mano e mano, macho on macho appearance to constantly remind the gangsters that all of the city is public property and open, and that they are not the dominant males.
Now some of the older cops complain that not only can the females not pull this off in front of the hostile, mocking, dominant, dangerous male groups on dangerous territory who merely ridicule and threaten the females, the females don’t even try and they just drive on and avoid that unpleasant but necessary ritual.
The female cops avoid much of what is in the less defined shadows and corners of the world of violence and crime, a male world.
I need to watch that again soon. I just saw Outlaw Josey Wales for the umpteenth time.
Why stop at 30% as a goal? Seems rather odd. Why not 50-50, or even 70% female? Or is there some unstated reason why they want to keep the majority of the force male?
Common sense tells you police officers on the beat who deal with criminals should be able-bodied males...
Just as common sense tells you child daycare workers caring for toddlers should be females.

I’d think women would be more inclined to use lethal force since they wouldn’t be strong enough to overpower some crack head. Which is fine with me
