After a Texas court handed conspiracy theorist Alex Jones a $50 million punishment for defaming the family of a Sandy Hook mass shooting victim, Jones was back online, calling the trial “rigged.” But, the mother of Jesse Lewis, a child gunned down in 2012, called the sentencing a win for all the victims’ families. The defamation judgement could serve as a precedent for other misinformation-related cases moving through the courts: showing what people can say and whether they can make money doing it online.

They're basically saying this sets a precedent and that "misinformation" will be clamped down upon.
Careful what you say on here, FRiends.
Jackson Hinkle:
They’re not taking Alex Jones down because he was wrong once, but because he was right about the powerful too often.
Who was actually defamed in the defamation case?
in that case, the entire FakeNewsMSM WORLDWIDE should be prosecuted, convicted and shut down.
Ain’t THAT the truth!
The headline is very misleading. While the jury may have awarded $50,000,000, Texas has a cap on punitive damages not to exceed $750,000 per plaintiff. This figure is well below the $150 million each that the plaintiff’s lawyer was seeking.
The defamation judgement could serve as a precedent for other misinformation-related cases moving through the courts: showing what people can say and whether they can make money doing it online.

There is the underlying purpose. Criminalize any speech which is counter to any officially sanctioned government narrative. “Misinformation” is a thoughtcrime.
There goes free speech.
Waiting for them to go after the TWA Flight 800 people next.
Jones would air both sides of the story, present all known facts, and let the listener decide.
The families claimed nut cases would send them, in their eyes, hurtful mail and messages.
When will the folks actually bothering the families be taken to court
But you know they will not be. Rather, it will be those who expose them that are prosecuted, convicted and shutdown.

You’re aware that there were no government charges against Jones in the defamation cases, right? No prosecutors, no police, no FBI, no grand juries, no indictments, no arrest.
Now Jones got caught red-handed on the witness stand this past Wednesday, lying repeatedly under oath for everyone to see. There could be perjury charges, but that would be completely on Jones, not some government conspiracy.
Admittedly, I have not ever heard Alex Jones but can someone who follows him and or this case explain to me how whatever Jones said about Sandy Hook actually defamed anyone? What actual harm did they suffer as a result of his stated opinion whether it was actually believed or just pontificated for its shock value? Thanks for any education those of you who followed this can provide.

So many don’t know what conservatism is nor are guided by the constitution. So, what is the touchstone so many are using to decide right and wrong?
The families are allarently, saying that disturbed people threatened them after Jones said what he said (that the shooting was a hoax) from what I understand of it. They might also be c,aiming that their reputations were harmed because hesaid what he said, claiming in a roundabout way that his claims made the parents out to be liars about ehat happened.
You start drinking early this morning? Yikes.
Did he lie about the behavior or character of anyone?
If not, where’s standing?
You’re right, and the poster knows that also...
