Not saying I’m right or wrong, just my opinion:
Shotgun doesn’t spread as much as you think it would ay house distances, so you still have to aim.
5.56/2.23 doesn’t penetrate like you think it would through walls.
.45/9mm penetrates a lot more than you think it would through house walls.
All that said, I think it depends. Maybe you live in an apartment, maybe you live in a brick house, maybe neighbors close by is not even an issue.
I used to use an AR, but got concerned about what would happen to my hearing inside a house and switched to AR9 pistol. But what I have isn’t reliable enough so back to AR for now.

Wood frame and sheet rock don't slow a 5.56 down much.

That ain’t going to help mate! A 22 LR indoors from a pistol will give you ear ringing...maybe permanently like I did to myself!
