Given the election in Arizona, she may either feel invulnerable or terrified.
She is playing the smart long game. She has gotten an outside amount of conservative/Republican support even though she is as left as other Democrats on most issues. Machine Democrats will give her a pass at the state level because she can hold the seat.
She is comparably charismatic, especially when the AZ Republican machine keeps on throwing up losers like Martha McSally.
She is a bi-sexual woman, which gets her over enough hurdles among the Dems, and oddly is less problematic to some Independents and Republicans than some other favored Dem groups.
If she decides to run for president, she would be up against a Bernie Sanders-type hard left white lib and a candidate who gets the black vote, leaving her with non-black Democrats who aren't raging socialists but are quite left socially, but don't want to scare the horses. That's a sizable bloc, and a good long-term play.

That analysis if right might give Manchin some pause to reconsider. He’ll be competing for the sameleftist demographic for the Rat nomination.
