Someone has made the suggestion that red counties should delay reporting of the vote so metropolitan areas don’t know how many votes to “find” after election day.

That's not a half-bad idea. What if you had a state elections law that said NO county or precinct could release ANY results until all votes were counted and all precincts reported "done". That wouldn't "disenfranchise" a single vote. You may still have issues with fraud, but you'd eliminate the "suddenly found in the middle of the night" boxes.

I’d like to see something like that in every state. No returns reported from anywhere until all vote counting is complete everywhere. Even if it took a few days (and it shouldn’t), it would be worth the wait.

Anyone leaking results to the media, or informing another precinct of returns before the official release, should do a long prison sentence.
