"I'm a federal agent."

They were answering a call about a slob, a derilict asking about guns. I think that’s probable cause.
If they’re (ATF) is going to do that, they really need to clean up their act. I’d suggest:
1. A shower and shave before work.
2. A coat and tie and nice shoes. Actually a suit would be better.
3. A courteous and calm manner.
You know, ‘dress for success.’

Wow. And he still had his job after stealing wine.
Wonder if he’s been fired yet?
What a piece of work.
Thanks. Yeah, she done real good. She deserves a neighborhood party. Good lady. She made a lot of people chuckle.
And he kept his job! Government workers have it made!
Wow. Who knew that the ATF hired such whining little pussies!
“I have a medical condition!”
Then you’re in the wrong line of work, Buddy.
“My wife’s pregnant!”
Not my concern.
“I need a medic!”
“An ambulance is on the way.”
“I don’t want an ambulance!”
“You asked for a medic.”
This is right after he was the big-shot thug trying to get into a house with only a small foreign woman alone with terrified small children inside. Major intimidation. Sounds like he tried to open the locked door when she refused to let him into the house so she called the cops. Good for her.
BTW, I’ve heard that the local Sheriff has more authority than Federal agents. Don’t know if it’s true, but if it is, have the Sheriff on speed dial.
ATF has NO authority over anyone who is not an FFL holder, seller of tobacco products, or liquor license holder. “ATF”.
If they have a genuine active investigation they need to go to the sheriff first.
Exactly. A real POS.

When I was doing vehicle repossessions in CA we were required to notify local law enforcement that we were going to repossess a vehicle in their jurisdiction in order to avoid them responding to a “vehicle theft” call with guns drawn. With our seizure documents and the prior notification any police response would be low key involving verification of the repo order and our repo license.
Obviously when repossessing a vehicle we would try to grab the vehicle quickly and quietly. Sometimes the vehicle owner would catch us in the act and we would need to call the cops to calm the situation down. We weren’t allowed to carry a weapon but our MAG light was not considered a weapon since it was a tool of the trade and we used it when necessary.
Funny as it is, rather serious that more than one video of ATF agents demanding to see firearms without warrants thereto. For each video, we can assume there are several more instances as well.
Someone without uniform (save for BP vest) and without warrant is suspect. Disengage immediately, closing the door and calling 911 per “possible case of impersonation of a federal agent, acting under color of law without a warrant”.
Compliance is dangerous. Be they valid or fraud, asking for a firearm serial number gives means to plant evidence (etching acquired serial number onto another similar firearm) implicating an innocent. “Wasn’t me, your honor - some guys came to my door claiming to be ATF agents wanting to check whether I still had the guns I purchased weeks before; no they didn’t have a warrant; no I don’t have proof of this...really, it wasn’t me...”
No warrant? Just close the door. You don’t have to get their agreement to anything. You can lose a great deal by complying with an un-adjudicated (warrant) demand.
Awesome
We call the sheriff on the feds in this county. They don’t get along.
Yes, definitely the fed.
I don’t disagree with you.
Just giving the ATFs justification. I didn’t say they were correct.
Note they also demand, without statutory right, dealers in certain states (Texas and other border states) to report ling gun purchases.

The ATF agent didn’t even have socks on.
They said he was doing this because the husband bought a shotgun? I’ve purchased guns before and never had ATF show up trying to force their way into my home.
In my area the sheriff deputies are usually good citizens, and they do not like ATF, and DOJ agents at all.
