Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan on Tuesday amid warnings from a furious Beijing that any U.S. politician visiting the island nation will 'come to no good end' if they 'play with fire.'
Her Air Force plane - with its distinctive blue and white colors and American flag on the tail - touched down in Taipei at 10:45 pm local time.
The Chinese, meanwhile, backed up their words with a shore of force.
As the speaker's Air Force C40 approached Taipei, Chinese Air Force Su-35 fighter jets were crossing the Taiwan Straits, local media outlets reported.
And chilling footage shared on Chinese social network Weibo appears to show amphibious tanks on the coast of Fujian along the Taiwan Strait. Further footage shows military equipment on the move in the city of Xiamen.
But Taiwan gave Pelosi a warm welcome. The island's tallest building, TAIPEI 101, lit up with a welcome message for Speaker Pelosi and supporters held welcome signs out of the hotel she will reportedly stay in.
Pelosi is the highest-ranking U.S. elected official to visit Taiwan since 1997. The White House is aware of her location.
'The speaker's flying aboard a military aircraft so we'll know,' spokesman John Kirby said at Monday's press briefing when asked how the White House would know if Pelosi touched down in Taiwain.
The speaker's Air Force jet left the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24. The site later crashed after 300,000 people tried to chart Pelosi's journey.
Beijing earlier warned that the United States will 'pay the price' if Pelosi visits Taiwan while Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday that those U.S. politicians who 'play with fire' on the Taiwan issue will 'come to no good end'.

Yep. I don't know if this was a good thing to do, or a bad thing to do at this point. I really don't. All I can say is this: She defied China's warnings and threats. Still don't like her one bit, can't wait for her to be out of office, but she did prove she has bigger balls than Biden and frankly, any other Democrat or Republican at this point.
Again, don't like her one bit. Do have to acknowledge she didn't bow to China's threats and pressure. And her going to Taiwan fully exposed the Biden Administration's allegiance with China as they walked away from Taiwan's independence from China yesterday.
Amazing. She actually exposed Biden's full corruption w/China. She may not realize it yet, but that's exactly what she did.

I felt it was sickening when the left complained about EVERYTHING that Trump did for four years .

For one, not celebrate the recklessness of a stumbling, corrupt drunk. She has done absolutely nothing in her career that is remotely in the interest of America so how about we give this mess a few hours before we think this is some sort of victory over China.

RE: Taiwan is the REAL China.
Alas, I wish this were so. I lived and worked in Taiwan in the 1980s during the pioneering days when she became Silicon Island and Chiang Ching Kuo ( then in ill health ) was President.
Back then, most Taiwan residents DID consider themselves Chinese and held hopes that China and Taiwan would eventually unify into one country NOT under communism, but under Sun Yat Sen’s Three Principles of the People.
That was then, today, the attitude has changed. A huge percentage of the Taiwan population DON’T consider themselves Chinese any longer and want Taiwan to be recognized as an INDEPENDENT country.
This is what angers the CCP, who have ALWAYS considered Taiwan historically to be part of China.
That's not out of the realm of possibilities, I'd posit this:
The overwhelming majority of people typically don't start paying attention to elections until sometime after the Labor Day holiday. They're not like us political junkies here on FR.
Even then, people vote their own best interest, which as of right now happens to be inflation, the recession we're in, the stagflation and all things investments, retirement, etc..
By November, Pelosi's trip to Taiwan will be a distant memory to most and the the questions of "what have you done to fix inflation? The recession? The starting to flail job market?" and more will be fully front and center.
My own humble opinion of course.
Edit to add, Pelosi better be careful with her words when she speaks. Any talk of recognizing Taiwan as an Independent Country will trigger China’s war machine.
Diplomacy is the order of the day.
The fact that China didn't leave it's shores or do direct fly-overs of Taiwan once they learned Pelosi landed exposed their threats as weak, hollow, and Xi Jinpeng has got to be steaming mad at losing face.
This may very well cost him his desired third term. That cannot be understated.
But it still implants the idea on the mushy middle that Pelosi is a “Statesman” and is tough on China. Plus the MSM Propaganda Machine is just starting to get warmed up.
The CCP loves to rattle their sabres but anyone who knows what’s going on knew they would never do anything but talk.
Switzerland announced that they would freeze the assets of Chinese nationals in their banks if China were to attack Taiwan.
That basically ended any chance. Every single person of importance in the CCP hierarchy has large sums of money (we’re talking tens if not hundreds of millions) stashed away in Switzerland. None of them want to risk losing it.
The only people who will remember are Chinese and Taiwanese immigrants.
