Fans of the beloved franchise Star Trek are mourning the tragic death of Nichelle Nicholas - who passed away from natural causes on Saturday night at the age of 89.

The actress, who is best known for playing Lieutenant Uhura in the sci-fi series, has received an outpour of love from former costars, celebrity friends, and supporters all around the world, after her son, Kyle, confirmed the sad passing on Sunday evening.

But what had she been up since she landed the history-making role more than four decades ago? In the wake of the heartbreaking loss, FEMAIL has uncovered everything she, and her castmates, have accomplished since the space show went off the air in 1969.

Some went on to launch major careers - landing a slew of big movie and TV show roles - while others struggled to land acting gigs, despite the show's immense fame.

The NBC series, which premiered in 1966 and went on for three seasons, was created by Gene Roddenberry and followed the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise and its crew - which was led by Captain James T . Kirk and his first officer Spock.

Aside from Nichols, it starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Eddie Paske. It went on to become one of the most popular shows of its time, and has since inspired numerous other TV shows, remakes, movies, and spinoffs.

As Nichols sadly passes away, take a look at where the rest of the Star Trek cast is now - 43 years after it came to an end. From their other acting credits and achievements to their love lives and scandals, here's a look back at their impressive careers.

I was stumped, even when I finally found him under his actual name, Eddie Paskey.

This “tragic loss” is a media thing. Any death is deemed thus because in their leftist world view death is the ultimate tragedy. The exception of course is if the person dying was of the right. Then suddenly the death is less tragic.

“They were nice, friendly people...”

It’s always nice to hear that about Celebs, because of a lot of them are entitled bums. Although I get how it might be wearying to have to be “on” for your fans sometimes. And, also, they probably get a lot of undeserved abuse from people too.

I think Shatner had something in one of his Autobios about coming to appreciate the fans he met at conventions, etc. Think I heard him say that on some interview, probably on NPR, definitely years ago.

Yvonne Craig

She lived on the street (Searcy) behind my house in Dallas TX, across our alley and about 2-3 houses up. That’s when I was about 12-13 and she was a beautiful teen of about 14-16, with fantastic legs.

There was a side street beside my house and she and her girlfriends would walk down that street in their short shorts to go visit another girl two streets away. At my age, all I could do was stare and drool.

Her folks moved to CA (LA?) when she was 16, I think, for more dancing/acting lessons.

Right you are. Craig was considered for the role of Vina the Orion girl in The Cage before it was given to Susan Oliver. I had forgotten about that and only remembered Craig playing Marta, also a green skinned Orion girl in Whom Gods Destroy. I was trying to understand why Craig's nose looked different in your photo...

I also prefer Oliver as a fair blonde too! While Roddenberry gets credit for being at the vanguard of a race blind society, and thus his interest in green skinned women, that probably was based on his sexual interest women of all racers, which was immoral.

You were lucky to have known her then and have those memories. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed her as Batgirl, who fulfilled a healthy female role as man's helper, not rival.
