“Security saw he had a weapon and told him to leave?! There’s got to be more to the story than that. Why wasn’t he detained and the cops called? They should have tackled him and sat on him until police arrived. They just let an armed man walk away?”

Discounting the possibility that the security guards have ESP and knew what the guy was going to do, why should they call the police because someone is armed? That’s not a crime or even a cause of concern in normal circumstances. It appears that Georgia is a constitutional carry state, so a permit is not even an issue.

The local police media release has a long comment thread on Facebook with people who knew both victim and perp. One lady said she knew “Rick”and saw signs of his mental instability over the years. But there he is piss drunk at a bar carrying a piece. Who knows how sane he was sober. I bet he doesn’t even remember what he did. I also bet security went easy on him because he was a regular. Not a great advertisement for gun rights.

As of 2014, it’s generally legal in Georgia to enter a bar/consume alcohol while carrying, but the establishment can still forbid it if they post a sign.

What was the motive? What was the argument about?

Probably the typical stuff drunks argue about. You spilled my beer, looked at my girl, insulted my receding hairline, etc.

And, just for general information, before you go tackle and sit on someone for carrying a gun, you might want to take a look at this story:

That wouldn't fly in Texas. I have some friends in my political circles who have a federal FFL and have a Texas CL. They never drink when they are carrying.

Tackled a guy getting coffee creamer for his wife!

And the victim is over 55 so FL’s elder abuse laws come into play. Felonies right there.

Don’t impeded the creamer run. People gotsta have it.

It doesn't bother you that he was drinking and carrying a gun?

“It doesn’t bother you that he was drinking and carrying a gun?”

First of all, your question is not relevant to the discussion. Instead of getting into personal opinion, how bout we stick with facts (as known) and the law? I’m not sure which story you’re talking about, the one I linked or the posted one, but there is no evidence of anybody drinking in either one. The posted story says he was at a pizza joint, not a bar, and says nothing about him drinking. Nothing in the linked story, either. What is the point of your question?

I appreciate that but the incident occurred “at Leopoldo’s, a local pizza place”, not a bar, and there is no indication in the story that he was drinking.

From the article: Investigators are looking into whether Sigman was angered from an earlier dispute with a man at a nearby **bar** where he was asked to leave prior to the deadly gunfire, Browning said.

I read the story 5 times and did not see that sentence. Oops.
