A 400-foot-tall wind turbine in Gloucester suffered a mechanical failure Sunday morning causing one of the turbine’s blades to fall to the ground.
The wind turbine is at Applied Materials on Dory Road in Blackburn Industrial Park. Gloucester Fire Department received a report of the incident at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.
The fire department and the city are working with Applied Materials to establish an appropriate isolation area around the turbine to ensure the safety of the structure and people around it.

Each has a house sized concrete base that is never going away.
Then again, how much lethal for multiple human generations radioactive crap was released from Fukushima?
How many gallons of oil does it take to lubricate one large wind generator?
I’ve seen numbers of 700-800. Needs to be replaced every year.
The only reasons these “work” (i.e., make money for the owners and manufacturers)

Don’t forget the workers who install these monstrosities, my son is an iron worker (union) and he’s made a fortune over the past 20 years installing them. He works a ton of very lucrative over time and I don’t fault him one bit, he’s politically to the right of me and he says, accurately, “ somebody’s gonna put them up and make a killing, might as well be me.”

The people in Washington are so isolated from reality they’re clueless how stupid these things are...
Solution: put the cell tower in the windmill housing. A twofer!
Try google or other search. I just remembered reading that somewhere.
Don’t think much. We cavorted on Oregon beaches for years after Fuku melted from bad design, and we are doing fine.
So they cut down a bunch of carbon sinks (trees) to produce inefficient "clean" power?
Okee-dokee.
In dry parts of Texas, where the wind blows strong often, you should see the cloud of dust created when the turbines are in use. Glad I don’t have any on our property.
They will go away, without a subsidy, they make no economic sense.
The whole concept is being used to bait citizens into accepting a creep into Communism and a total loss of Freedom.
We must prevent that. Or the USA will end. Elements of the citizens already know what is being done. Texas will not go along. No matter what.
Deaths from wind turbine tower accidents in Western countries are bigger than deaths from nuclear power in western countries. Chernobyl may have higher death numbers.
Since they already have the height, why not add cellular telephone antennas to the wind turbines.
I use to work there when it was Varian Ion implant Systems.
That’s easy to believe.. Any chance you’ve got a link?
A little glue, a little duct tape, and it’ll be right back in action siphoning money from rate-payers pockets.
It the same situation near Palm Springs….. many wind turbines, very few operating.
There are plenty of other legitimate power plants he could work on that don’t contribute all the horrendous environmental degradation these monstrosities do.
Your son, if he is still doing high work in 30 years, will have plenty of work tearing down what he built. These things are colossal failures.
Years ago a local newspaper put up a small (but expensive) windmill to show solidarity with the green movement. They discovered it was costing them thousands AND they were saving pennies a month. Yes, 'pennies' a month. It was put up with much coverage and taken down with hardly a whimper...
