Good ballplayer.
If the GOAT discussion is based on titles....there’s the GOAT.
Good for him, making it to age 88!
The GOAT.
After retiring from playing, Russell served as the head coach of the Seattle Supersonics (1973-77) and the Sacramento Kings (1987-88), reaching the playoffs twice with the Sonics. He never had the same success as a coach that he enjoyed in his playing career, however.

I remember when he hosted SNL, he was in a skit called “The Black Shadow”, which was a parody of “The White Shadow”, where he was the coach always getting into trouble, and his white players had to bail him out.
Yep, tall people generally don’t make it that long.
RIP! I know this man, and he wasn’t a Knick! Always seemed like a nice, smart person.
Russell was player - coach of the Celtics toward the end of his career.
The center of the iconic Celtic teams of the sixties. Legendary player.
No one said he was a Knick, or did I miss something?
Real basketball, before the 3-point shot ruined it.
How could he have?
Look, I loved Russell as color man with Gary Bender on CBS. He had a wild sense of humor, but he retained a bitterness against whites for his entire life. I forget examples, honestly.
If I grew up during the time Russell did, I’d be bitter too.
There is no reason for any black person growing up today to be bitter.
Only those with Marfan’s have shortened life spans.
Loved watching Bill at 6foot9 battle Chamberlain at 7 feet on the old ABC Sunday afternoon game from 1 to 3 central time. Lakers with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor were great. Old Bill used to control Chamberlain for the most part. Bill was not a big scorer, but a great Def player and rebounder.
Yes, but why become a Democrat, the party of every racist evil in American history?
