CHICAGO -- A 13-year-old boy was shot Friday after he and at least three others tried to break into a parked vehicle in Hyde Park on the South Side, police said.
About 8 p.m., the boy was among "four to five" men who were trying to breach a parked car in the 1100 block of East 52nd Street when the vehicle's owner, a 34-year-old woman, confronted the group, Chicago police said.
One of the men brandished a handgun, but the woman, who possesses a valid concealed carry license, fired her gun and struck the 13-year-old in the neck, police said.
The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition, police said.
The other men fled the scene.

So having now followed the link and rest the rest of the story.
She probably is in trouble unless she can find evidence that one of them pulled a gun.
There could be video of the street somewhere that captured it.
There could be witnesses that haven’t been mentioned. There’s a good chance the 13 year old will talk.
If she can prove a gun was pulled, then she has a self defense case. And the accomplices if identified and caught could face charges for getting the kid injured.
Since the boy wasn’t the one with the gun, yeah, she’s going down.
Maybe she was aiming at the gunman, but she hit the boy instead.
It won’t matter. She’s toast.
In Illinois, the State statutes for self defense are very explicit.

In Illinois, attempted theft of property is not considered a life-threatening situation. Sucks, but that’s the way it is.

Yes, it does; it makes her defense stronger. She’s confronted by several males (she is, of course, a woman), at least one of whom is armed and brandishing a lethal weapon.

It’s just another arrow in her quiver: (1) BIPOC; (2) Lesbian; (3) CCW permit.
My grandparents came from Sicily around 1900 or so. My Grandfather was brought up to protect what was his.
I remember when I was little he had a fantastic garden. His tomatoes were to die for.
This happened here in the US, in 1910. Italians were discriminated against just like the Jews, Irish, and blacks. Neighborhood kids would mess up his garden
just for fun. One day, one kid pushed him a little too far and grabbed some tomatoes. Before he could get over the fence, grandpa pulled out his Colt Police Special .32 and popped the kid in the ass and the leg. Well, the kid made it home, and was taken to the hospital. My Grandpa was arrested and charged
with, I believe, aggravated assault. The kid made a full recovery, thank God.
But, here’s the thing- my Grandpa, in broken English, told the judge his side of the story. The judge then asked the boy if what Grandpa said was true.
The boy admitted it was. The judge dismissed the charges. True story.
I have a copy of the LaSalle, Illinois newspaper from 1910, which one of my cousins researched which gives a brief account. The case never went to trial.
That kid, and ALL the neighborhood kids, never bothered him again.
Different times, folks. Different times.
OH, and along with a copy of the newspaper reports, I have that revolver.
Maybe it’ll go that way, for her sake. We’ll see.
The car theft gangs here are all minors. The gangs who sell the cars recruit kids, knowing they’ll get lighter sentences, if at all.
I hope she’s black. No way Foxx lets her off otherwise.
In self-defense classes, you are advised to go for center mass so as to prevent your weapon or another being used against you or accidentally hitting a bystander.
I heard NASCAR will have a Chicago street race next year. I wonder what the penalities will be when the race car get carjacked. I wonder if thugs will race while doing drive bys. 🤓
