A 23-year-old man who “exited” a plane Friday afternoon before it made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport was found dead around 7 p.m. in Fuquay-Varina, authorities said.
...Crooks was the plane’s co-pilot
That was the tragic ending to a confusing emergency at RDU Friday. Around 3 p.m., a twin-engine turbo prop aircraft reported landing gear issues as it approached the airport, according to the airport. The plane landed on Runway 5R-23L and veered into the grass, according to the airport. The pilot, the only passenger on the plane when it reached the ground, was taken to a Duke University hospital with minor injuries, an airport spokesperson said.

The plane in this incident doesn't have wing struts so it doesn't appear to be a Cessna SkyCourier.
His life may have been rather mundane and unremarkable, but he made a huge impact in death.
Are there still places that let novices jump solo? I made a few sport jumps many years ago, and I wonder sometimes about trying it again (even at 67, I bet I could still do a PLF without breaking anything). Everywhere around here seems to be all about tandem jumps.
His plunge was an illustration of the USA under Brandon.
“One of the guys in our group has never once landed in an airplane.
This was his first ever flight and he jumped out.”
I made five jumps. I was getting ready to go do my first hop and pop one Sunday morning. CNN had a beautiful video of three professional skydivers crashing to their deaths. I took it as a sign. I did not go. This is the story but no video.
Probably made quite an impression, if the ground was soft.
Remember that guy in 1991 or 1992 who forgot his parachute? He was a skydiving instructor making his fourth or fifth jump of the day, and went out of the plane with no chute on. They showed his helmet-cam footage (no audio) on the news, all the way to the ground.
“He jumped with his plasma, his bag, everything an army doctor needs... except his parachute.”
“He was the best damn O. D. we ever had!”
What’s that from?
MASH the “Tuttle” episode.
More importantly, did they find the big bag of stolen money? ;)
Thanks. I hardly ever watched that show, because I couldn’t stand Alan Alda. Still can’t.
Again, that, can say, you.
Well that episode was before it turned into “The Alan Alda Show”.
No, silly!
There was a plane full of passengers and crew. Only one landed with the plane. One man "exited."
Oh, he was the co-pilot, just as an aside.
Only the pilot made it to the ground with the plane, by the way.
Oh, they were the only ones on board. Just mentioning that now.
Just saying.
Looking back now, it was actually pretty radical for Hal Roach to have a show where black and white kids were friends. I can’t think of anything from that time that did that.

Yeah, I do remember that. Pretty crazy.
