Interesting use of technology.

But as the article notes, it is being sold to insurance companies to help them manage billing and care ...

The dentist office always tells me they want to do x-rays. I usually opt out.
They say that it is only a tiny bit of radiation. And I ask, if it is so safe, why do they stand on the other side of the shielded wall, and why do they bother with the lead blanket.

Looks like a virtue-signalling piece of software. Subliminal, huh?

The funniest bit was when they used to tell me to close my eyes. You're shooting radiation through my bones, but my eyelids are supposed to stop something?

if it is so safe, why do they stand on the other side of the shielded wall,

once per year for you vs. a dozen times per day for the dentist.

and why do they bother with the lead blanket.

I haven't gotten the blanket recently. I think when they went all electronic that the sensor is more sensitive than the film was so they can use a lower dose.

Interesting technology. Some insurance companies seem to like it. Hmmmm.

“But as the article notes, it is being sold to insurance companies to help them manage billing and care ...”

But as the article notes, it is also being used by dentists.

Folks,

We used to have professionals. How many professionals have you encountered lately? They do exist but are getting rarer.

If you don’t have professionals, you try to substitute technology.

Which is better?

I should add, the more technology, the more centralization of decision making and power.

Everything has pros and cons..........................

Those two bottom wisdom teeth are going to cause problems.

Its not necessarily an “either-or” thing.

The AI can be used to identify, predict and propose action(s) but ultimately I still want a professional to weigh the data and alternatives and assist with the decision making process.

I personally use an AI based service (for a completely different purpose) and factor the probabilities into my decisions. I use it as a tool, not as a replacement for my own thinking.

Year ago I had two bottom wisdom teeth that looked something like that, except worse. The procedure for taking them out was quite an experience. ;)

Those are young wisdom teeth.

They grow roots and push the other teeth.

Get them out quick.

Else they mess up your other teeth, and are heck to remove.

Been there, done that, all four at once, 20 years too late.

I hate going to the dentists and recently consented to my first X-rays in three years. The dental assistant had a little clicker and there was no blanket. Just hurts when the crap jabs into your gums.

Is the AI going to tell the dentist which 'tooth glue'
to use to hold in the temporary filling until the lab
finishes making the crown in a week or two?

Or is the temp just going to keep falling out again anyway regardless?

“And I ask, if it is so safe, why do they stand on the other side of the shielded wall, and why do they bother with the lead blanket.”

because you get only a single dose twice a year and they would get dozens of doses a day ... i’m sure they’ve told you that, assuming you really did ask such an ignorant question ...

“Guesswork”?

and here i thought my dentist was a highly trained professional with years of clinical experience when he made diagnoses and recommendations ... who knew he was just secretly flipping a coin behind his back ...
