I’ve taken ten geriatric rescues over the years in addition to that pit who was 1-1/2 years old or so when we got her. Just for conversation sake, how many rescues have you taken on?

We’ve taken in four.

Why? Does your number make you a better person?

Shelters are chock full of abandoned pits. We saw this, with the last pup we rescued.

Our cousin saw the same, when she was adopting.

If this breed is so special to you, and, you have such a large heart for them...why don’t you clear your local shelter of all of them?

The pups we’ve adopted are not known to be aggressive, or attack their masters or others. And, there weren’t a shelterful of their type breed.

Now, get out there and save all of these abandoned pits...support your breed and put your heart where your fave breed is.

Nice conversing with you.

Ah....as I suspected.

You didn’t answer my second question.

Is the poodle breed, that you brought up, known for mauling and attacking their masters, other dogs, and other people?

Pit bulls get a bad reputation because so many owners abuse them and turn them into mean dogs.

They’re probably more of a reflection of their owners than anything, and from what I’ve seen, they can be gentle loving dogs as you have seen also.

How many maulings/killings have been attributed to poodles, poodle?

“Is the poodle breed, that you brought up, known for mauling and attacking their masters, other dogs, and other people?”

It attacked the Basset Hound next door, and killed it (well, it had to be put down because it was mauled so badly).

I’m sure you can look up stats on dogs on line.

Most people don’t know enough ethology to own any unaltered dog, or most large breeds, even if altered. Any dog that isn’t properly socialized as a pup, is a potential problem.

Would I codify that in law? No...I’m not a libtard control freak.

“Ah....as I suspected. You didn’t answer my second question.”

I didn’t answer it because I don’t know. But I’m sure you can go on line and find out.

You know, not everything is a conspiracy or an attempt to deceive.

You are being ridiculous. But, you know that.

I didn’t ignore it. I just didn’t know the answer to the question!

What is your problem?

I think it depends on who raises the pit bull.

If the owner knows that their puppy has the propensity to be extremely aggressive and nips it in the bud, things will be fine.

Two pit bulls share a laugh:
- And my guy says: “Come on in, he doesn’t bite!”
- “And what did you do?”
- “I did bite!”

“I work homeowner liability claims, the vast majority of which are dog bites. They aren’t all pit bulls, but 90% if the horrific ones are.”

I’ve been retired for years, but I handled a few dog bite cases during my career, and I’d say, by breed, Chows were the most common offenders.

Any dog that isn’t properly socialized as a pup, is a potential problem.

That is the answer, although maybe it doesn't work that well with pit bulls. Too many people who never had dogs in the family are now buying them and not getting them trained or learning how to do it themselves.

You can have a wonderful rescue dog, and then buy a puppy of the same breed and wonder why they are so different.

All so very sad. Am a big dog and animal person, always trying to. live and let live- domesticated, and wild - and have known Really sweet pitties, but honestly - have NEVER felt truly comfortable around them.
Read a blog the other day, with a post from someone who tried to rescue a pup. Just could not overcome the instincts that the dog was instilled with genetically in regards to other creatures.
It is hard to think that the solution is to spay/neuter them... to allow the truly sweet pitties live out their happy loved lives, and to let the breed go.
sigh.

All of those puppies being given away or sold at five weeks are being cheated. They don’t take to training very well.

I think it is heartbreaking that so many shelters are filled with abandoned pits.

If you find them so gentle and appealing, then why not clear the shelter of them? Start a Place for Pits Kennel, so they’re not be put down...but, instead can have the love and affection they deserve.

What is ridiculous, or, conspiratorial, about that, ought?

Excuse?

I don’t know if there’s an “excuse” for a dog killing someone especially someone they’re living with even though here, it sounds like it was for a fairly short time. Who knows how this biker treated this dog? Maybe not too well.

Animals are generally considered a risk and unpredictable, no matter what kind.

But these generalizations about pit bulls are not necessarily fair or accurate for the reasons I mentioned.

That is 100% correct. I’ve raised a couple of wonderful pit bulls in my time. My brother as well. Heck our circle of friends have raised multiple of pits. Not a single one ever bit anyone. We are all responsible owners who spend time with our animals and it shows.
