Nearly half of all Americans are falling deeper in debt as inflation continues to boost costs

Higher prices have taken a toll.

In an economy that has produced the highest inflation rate since 1981, Americans are struggling to keep up with expenses and are putting less money aside for emergencies or long-term financial goals, several recent studies show.

I’ve noticed a general numbing of interest about inflation but apparently it’s as bad as ever. A few more stunning examples: 1. 1 in every 4 Americans now have zero—nada savings. 2. 43% of Americans have increasing debt 3. The average household debt is higher than it’s been——ever.

This is MSNBC so of course they have to throw in their little bit of propaganda effort as well. They blame inflation on wars, COVID and “other world events”.

Nary a word about our administration.

But wait, it just ‘transitory’ (of course everything is transitory if enough time passes).

Probably a good many of these people were in debt to begin with and they voted Democrat because Biden and his friends told them to keep on spending and being in debt.

Yes, I have a feeling MSNBC is sugar coating it. I bet it’s worse even than what they admit.

Just found an article from 2018 that said 20% of Americans were saving nothing, can’t believe it’s only raised 5% after COVID and Biden. (CNBC)

I think we have significant inflation however I think some of those stats are normal.

A large percentage of US households always have increasing debt because they are new families buying houses, cars etc.

A similar large percentage go paycheck to paycheck and have no emergency funds.

So what are they trying to scare us into this time?

Don’t forget that Biden and Democrat policies have decimated people’s retirement accounts. As predicted by Trump.

Trumps fault?

Did he participate in massive government borrowing where the proceeds were given out as unearned stimulus checks?

I’m working hard to pay off all debt and as soon as that’s done I’ll be adding to savings. You’d be amazed at how much money you save by not buying Chinese crap.

Government funded pensions for all; health care for all, free college education including doctor of education programs for all, FREE! No worries! Elimination of all student loan balances etc. etc.

I’m trying to remember if they did this during Carter.
The big story was the Iran hostage crisis.
I felt the inflation issue as I was out of work for 4 years due to construction collapse.

I DO remember going to a Target store answering a “help wanted” ad and the line went around the building.

Then the headline also implies

Over half of all Americans are either maintaining or reducing their debt load.

Right now people are trying to maintain their lifestyles with credit cards and dipping into savings. Once the cards are maxxed out and savings gone they will struggle to survive. That’s when you will see real chaos. If something doesn’t change in the next 6-12 months the cities are going to be crime central.

I remember about that time (1980) I was a teen, went out to visit my aunt in California for a summer. I tried to apply for 3-4 openings at a local Pizza Hut. The restaurant was packed with applicants and the line went out the door and into the parking lot.

That’s was after 4 years of Jimmy Carter and right when Regan took over.

I was a teen looking for a part time summer job, there were educated looking 25 year olds in line by the dozen.

I just walked away.

Simple, just redefine "inflation". Oh, and also "debt" and the problem goes away.

Hey, it worked for "vaccine" and "recession".
