KEYWORDS:
You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

An easy (if long one) today, in the original, unbowdlerized version. The more familiar version substituted EZYQPZK KZXIKQ for NDJWZC KZXIKQ.

If you need a clue ask the group to send you a letter to your private reply.

4 minutes good
3 minutes excellent
2 minutes exceptional
90 seconds superior

That’s why we have air conditioning. And why I love living up in the mountains where it’s cooler.😀

If you get the opportunity watch the entire film in 3D. It’s fantastic.

Thanks. I enjoyed watching, especially the reactions from the others in the room!

The same number comes on later in the movie, and it’s sexier. This is in the opening scene. The movie was originally filmed in 3D using polarization separation. Almost no theaters these days can play it in 3D. The opening scene with Ann Miller dancing in front of three mirrors, and throwing garters into the camera works a whole lot better in 3D. The movie has brief fire breathing and juggling vignettes that only make sense in 3D.

TV does not preserve polarization, so it cannot be shown in 3D on TV. An advantage of using polarization is that either reel can be shown by itself, and it’s no worse than any other 1D image.

I remember seeing this film many years ago. I put it down for a future watching with my husband. I hope someday to see it in 3D. I was raised in the NYC TV market and remember the commercials for Ann Miller and Mickey Rooney in “Sugar Babies.”

They were showing it in 3D in an “artsy” theater in Brookline, Massachusetts. The town is so politically correct (W was president at the time) that it made my teeth ache. But the film was an experience. Nothing special about it in 2D that you can’t get on TV.
