Combination of factors: inflation and the high prices of seats/food at the game, the demographic of the loyal baseball fans (older generations are the fan base; younger people have less interest in the pace of baseball), and the high prevalence of South American/Carribean players that makes them harder to connect with. People at this forum overestimate the negative effects of Wokeness. Yes, it’s annoying, but not likely a big factor.

I used to be a huge baseball fan, since I was about 10 yo. No longer watch. Period. Wokeness is my overriding factor. Nothing else comes close.

Overestimate wokeness? No, but the media completely ignore it.

You say “this forum” as if you regard yourself as being an outsider to it.

Here’s another factor they overlook: MLB teams are located in or near major downtown centers, and most games are scheduled on weeknights. With many people working from home permanently, these teams are struggling to get their typical post-workday crowd.

The other thing I’d point out is that the whole experience of watching a major sports event in many cities is a hassle. A friend of mine was recently offered two free tickets — with a combined face value over $400 — to see his favorite MLB team. He couldn’t be bothered.
