Concrete is a better road and doesn’t melt....and beats asphalt 10-1.

Sustained high temps will buckle concrete sidewalk panels and freeway panels.

My wife and I spent a Labor Day weekend at Lake Shasta in 1998. It was scorching all along the west coast. We left Redding at 112 outside and as we were coming up I-5 into Tacoma heading to our house in Bothell, one of the freeway panels popped up against the flow of traffic about 10 cars in front of us. It was still 104 in Tacoma.

Imagine hitting a 10 inch thick wheel stop at 50 mph.

But in Texas, the heat cracks it. Then, it buckles. I've seen road buckles in both asphalt and concrete that was like running over a 6" curb.
