I read/heard that the asphalt in Northern Europe cannot withstand that type of heat and it’s made of a different material than ours or in the Mediterranean regions.

It is probably true. I also heard that under milder conditions it lasts longer than our stuff. You use the materials you have at hand. Unfortunately, in the midwest there seems to be a lot of salt.
