Faults in Limestone strata is commonly indigenous to the Mediterranean area.

It’s very similar (to my untrained eye) to your Carlsbad Caverns.
Much of Israel has extensive karsts (underground voids that do not have a natural opening like a cave), so much so that people have been looking for them and living in them (and getting water from them) for 5000 years.
There is typically required ground-penetrating sonar before any kind of heavy construction, but this is a very rural area so they probably got away without an inspection. Very pretty, too. Much like California’s wine country.
